Personal Art Smith Swage Block
Square Personal Artist Blacksmiths' block by Jock Dempsey
This is one of two castings in ductile iron hand ground by the maker.
Two more were cast in cast iron but were poor quality faulty castings and they were sold at cost.
So there are currently (2006) only four of these in existance.
The pattern for this block is one of two made by Jock Dempsey the anvilfire guru in 1982 and cast in 1984 by Western Foundry of Portland Oregon.
The patterns were carved from solid mahogany.
60 lbs. (27kg) 9 x 9 x 3.88" (227 x 227 x 99mm)
One is in the Josh Greenwood collection, the author has the other and two are unknown.
